If you stop by, you will find Lenore baking her pies, cookies, and assortment of other delicious items. So far, we have sampled (and loved) her sugar cookies, bread pudding, red velvet cake, and sweet potato pie. The sweet potatoe pie was particularly fantastic-- it is a must have for your upcoming holiday feasts!

Do you have any pictures of their specialties? Is there a flashing zone outside to help with the parking?
We will be getting some pictures on Tuesday. I'm not familiar w/ the flashing zone, I have just parked on the street in front of the bakery in the past without a problem.
I've heard that 71st st. is violent...will I get mugged?
In response to the previous question--I have been on 71st Street many times without incident.
If we want to improve our neighborhood and remove the violence we must support these local businesses.
Chicago is a wonderful city and like most urban areas the focus is always on the violence. I was born and raised in Chi' it is a matter of perspective and like most cities, adaptability. I won't downplay the violence, after all people still talk about Al Capone don't they?
I also know Lenore and her husband James, long time friends haven't seen in years. Kudos to them!
They are great people and I'm not surprised she opened a bakery. The woman lovessss to bake. I think James married her for her amazing oatmeal cookies. (Ha Ha).
It might be good to know she is second generation homeowner in the same neighborhood she has a business in--South Shore, though I don't know if they still live there.
I love the South Shore area lived there myself before moving to Wisconsin. Ran a home based pen and ink illustration business and raised two sons. In fact lived with Lenore before moving here, before they were married.
South Shore is worth all the effort to restore it to it's former granduer and improve on what is already there. The wonderful old buildings, homes, restaurants, sights and sounds. An amazing community.
I plan to go there in the near future and I think I will make South Shore the first stop and look up my old friends. Great article by the way!
